If you have any questions about one of these activities after reading the information provided, please feel free to email the person who submitted the article. C O N F O R M A T I O N (for further information) Conformation judging is how we keep our breed looking like our breed. We
have a certain breed standard that describes what a Weimaraner should look
and act like. At AKC shows, judges try to find the dogs that best represent
the standard and award them championship points. When a dog has
earned the
required 15 points, it is named an AKC Champion - a very worthy
accomplishment.H U N T I N G / R E T R I E V I N G (for further information) The Weimaraner is a pointing dog, bred initially
in Germany as a hunter of small game. As game became less available the Weimaraner was
bred as a bird dog and in North America is used primarily to hunt upland game birds. Even
if you don't plan on hunting with your Weimaraner you can participate in the Weimaraner
Club of America's Rating Tests for Shooting & Retrieving abilities. The Weimaraner, of
course, has innate abilities in these areas and is a pleasure to watch and handle in these
activities.O B E D I E N C E (for further information) From Basic Training to Competitive Obedience to Entertainment - Obedience Training with your Weimaraner can be fun, frustrating and very fulfilling. T H E R A P Y D O G (for further information) "Visiting Pets" "Therapy Dogs" "Therapy Pets" are just some of the names given to describe programs in which animals help people just by visiting with them.
